The production of integrated knowledge. Transformative practice.

CIKI's brand essence captures the two-part journey that defines its work: the production of integrated knowledge across sectors, and its translation into transformative practice. These two imperatives are simultaneous, mutually reinforcing commitments that characterize everything CIKI produces and delivers.

  1. Preamble

The Centre for Integrated Knowledge Invention (CIKI) is an independent research, education and consulting practice committed to the advancement of sustainability and integrated thinking. Apart from advisory, training and research-based activities, one of the vital ways to achieve this overarching objective is through the promotion of human development in terms of society’s cognitive-creative flourishment. CIKI, as such, operates at the convergence of rigorous scholarship, applied practice, and community engagement.

Founded by Dr. A M M Maruf Hossain — a sustainability scholar, practitioner and author — CIKI gives institutional form to the intellectual project that Dr. Hossain has pursued through more than a decade of research: the development of an integrated intellectual framework for sustainability. This framework is the theoretical spine of everything CIKI does.

In its work, CIKI draws on a philosophy of knowledge that values both analytical rigor and lived experience, representing systemic understanding and individual agency, respectively. It recognizes that the sustainability challenge — from environmental sustainability to social cohesion, and from organizational transformation to the flourishing of individual members of society — require not merely technical solutions, but a fundamental reorientation in how human beings think, learn, and act.

Through research, publication, consulting, education, and community service, CIKI aims to pursue its conviction that knowledge, in proper integrated form, is among the most powerful instruments of societal transformation available to us.

About CIKI

Center for Integrated Knowledge Invention (CIKI) was founded in 2016 by Dr. A M M Maruf Hossain, who specializes in ‘the intellectual treatment of sustainability’. [Intellectual Portfolio] [LinkedIn] [Email]

His doctoral work at the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, Australia, produced a fundamental intellectual process for the study of multifaceted bodies of knowledge/research in relation to sustainability.

This intellectual process is underpinned by a new mode of intellectual inquiry—one that enquires about the production of sound knowledge regarding things/realities in their totalities—while the production of such knowledge is essential to the provision of an effective intellectual treatment of sustainability.

While the research monograph titled ‘The Intellectual Structure of Sustainability’* advances this new line of intellectual inquiry through the formation of a theory that unearths the foundation of a new avenue of knowledge, termed as the scholarship of sustainability; CIKI was founded with its primary aim to contribute to the advancement of this new avenue of knowledge for the provision of effective approaches toward solving the problems of unsustainability.
