Book Blurb: This research monograph creates ‘human intellectual capability’ for the production of sound knowledge regarding things/realities in their totalities, as the production of such knowledge—termed here as integrated knowledge—is imperative for the provision of an effective intellectual treatment of sustainability. The research that is presented here is composed of five consecutive parts, where Part I constructs a novel intellectual process that aims to produce integrated knowledge regarding a ‘sample thing/reality’. This is followed by Parts II-IV having thoroughly tested this intellectual process in regard to this capacity. Part V brings the key contributions of Parts I-IV together, resulting in the production of the theory of integrated knowledge creation, which is formed here on the basis of the production of sound knowledge regarding the given thing/reality in its totality. As such, the formation of this theory unearths the foundation of a new avenue of knowledge, termed here as the scholarship of sustainability.

Book Blurb: As an interesting notion to engage with, sustainability represents an approach and a ‘thought process’ that dictates an ideal way of looking at reality. ‘Thinking in Sustainability’ is the first book of ‘Bright Life Series’, where sustainability is approached in the light of research, education, and a ‘thought process’. Chapters 1-3 laid down the foundation of this work by addressing the intellectual root of the crisis of sustainability, and the need for the provision of an effective intellectual treatment of sustainability. Chapter 4 responded to this need in the light of my original research titled ‘The Intellectual Structure of Sustainability’, and produced the design of the necessary intellectual capability in an easy-to-apply format. The implications of this intellectual capability have, then, been detailed in Chapters 5-7 in the light of research, education, and the ‘thought process’ represented by sustainability, respectively. While Chapter 5 discussed 10 areas of fundamental research and five areas of problem-based research in pursuit of sustainability, Chapter 6 produced a detailed design of ‘sustainability education’ including its pedagogical basis. This pedagogical basis consists of eight pedagogical principles: (1) problems that are a part of real life, (2) making the abstract concrete, (3) dealing with a diversity of perspectives, (4) focus on the use of well-founded data, (5) focus on the effect of group reinforcement on individual contribution, (6) individuals as charged components of a creative, integrated circuit, (7) focus on deep work, not short-changed productivity, and (8) an aim to enhance capacity for both critical and integrative thinking. Drawing on Chapters 1-6, Chapter 7, then, synthesized four limbs to the ‘thought process’ represented by sustainability. These limbs have been synthesized in terms of: (a) direction and quality, (b) relevance and diversity, (c) area of focus, and (d) analytical integrity.

Book Blurb: What is it you get excited about? Is it something that is puzzling? Or something that is too distant, but we can control it right from where we stand! Or perhaps, doing something that makes things better around us! If it is so, then sustainability is something that you can have a lot of fun with. Open this book, and here you will learn how interesting and important sustainability is! You will also learn what it means to grow in knowledge of sustainability. And finally, you will learn how to think in sustainability.
